Welcome to the web site of BLACKWORK STITCH PLUS.
BLACKWORK is one of the most charming and enduring forms of needlework which dates back to the 14th century. It was made popular by Catherine of Arogan, the Spanish princess who came to England to marry Prince Arthur in 1501, and after his death, later married Henry V111.
Catherine's influence in the English courts, with her passion for embroidery, made this style of embroidery popular. The stitches used then are very much the same as today. Patterns may look very complicated to work, but the stitches used are very simple and easy to work, even for a beginner.
For many years I have collected thousands of patterns from all over the world and have compiled a Web site of over 30 blackwork designs for the beginner *, average sewer **, or experienced sewer ***, be they child or adult. The star ratings will show which gallery is suitable for your sewing capabilities.
The Web site contains all the designs which are available as a kit or chart, but if you prefer, a printed catalogue can be sent to you for £2.50 (see order form).
Each kit contains antique white 16 count Aida, DMC threads, tapestry needle, a clear and easy to read colour graph with full instructions to get started.
